Memory & Meaning in the Rural Black Church

Since Emancipation, African American churches have served as vibrant spaces where faith, education, and community have thrived. The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center invites the public to celebrate the history of the Black rural churches at a free program, featuring a trio of special guests: Bob Reid, internationally-recognized journalist, television producer, and director; Reverend Dr. Avis Williams, Doctor of Ministry, Candler School of Theology at Emory University; and a musical performance led by Dr. Emorja Roberson.

The Morgan County African-American Museum will present an afternoon program highlighting "revivals" from the mid-20th century to the present. This will be part of a Black History Month celebration exploring the influence of religion on community and culture in the American South. The public is invited. (Co-sponsored by the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center.)
