Beginner / Intermediate Pastels with Ann Dodys


Instructor Ann Dodys offers adult beginner & intermediate pastel classes at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center. We urge you to dive into the creative world of pastels with this unique series of six (6) three-hour classes held in the Hall on Foster. Class size is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot today!

Class Description:

This is a class designed for beginner students working with soft pastels. A variety of pastel techniques will be used to create Impressionistic compositions/paintings. We will work from photos (yours or the instructor’s) and still-life’s exploring drawing, composition, value, perspective, and color. Be prepared to paint during the first class after the instructor’s demonstration. Each student will be given individual attention/instruction during the class.

About the Instructor:

Ann Dodys is an artist/art educator who was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Design and use of color comes naturally to Ann given her background. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Stratford College in Danville, Virginia, Ann began her art career in Jacksonville, Florida creating interior and exterior wall designs for both commercial and residential spaces. 

Ann has received recognition for her pottery through the Virginia Craft Guild as well as her painted birdhouses through Habitat for Humanity. After earning a teaching certificate from Georgia State University, Ann has taught visual art in high school, middle school, and elementary school for 30 years. She earned a master’s in art education while teaching and producing unique and appealing works of art. 

As an artist, she has worked with a variety of media over the years but fell in love with pastels after participating in a workshop outside of Paris, France. She exhibited her pastels at La Bonne Etoile, Fontaine-Fourches, France in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018 where she achieved Member of Excellence status with the Southeastern Pastel Society. 

Upon retiring, Ann, her husband Dimitri, and their four-legged friends moved to Madison, Georgia where she has an art studio and teaches painting classes.
